Easy Peas Pulao
Ingredients:
Green Peas – 1 cup
Basmati rice – 2 cups
Onion (medium size) – 1 no
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp
Ghee – 1 tbsp
Curd – 1 tbsp
Cinnamon, Clove, Cardamom, Bay leaf – 1 each
Coriander leaves – 2 tsp (chopped)
Water – 4 cups
Oil
Salt to taste.
To grind:
Shallots or small onions – 2 nos.
Badam (Almonds) – 1 tbsp
Ginger – 1 inch piece
Garlic – 2 nos.
Green Chillies – 2 nos.
Method:
- Wash and soak Basmati rice in water for 30 minutes.
- Grind shallots, badam, chillies, ginger and garlic in a mixer and keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker and fry Bay leaf, Cinnamon, Clove and Cardamom.
- Now add the finely sliced big onion and fry till golden brown.
- Then mix in the ground mixture and sauté well.
- Add in the green peas and little salt and mix all the ingredients.
- Add in curd and cook for 5 minutes.
- Now add the soaked Basmati rice and add water. Check for salt and add appropriate amount as required to suit your taste.
- Now finally before closing the lid, pour in the ghee and sprinkle coriander leaves.
- Let it cook for 3 whistles. Turn off the heat, place a tawa and keep the pressure cooker on top of it.
- When the pressure recedes completely. open the lid and serve hot with a hot and spicy Veg/Non-Veg Gravy accompanied ny Raita.
Note:
- I personally love this dish with Chicken curry and Raita. In case of Vegetarian dishes, my pick would be Paneer Butter Masala or Navarathna Khorma.
- Take care to ensure that you add the right amount of water. If you take two cups of rice, then the water content should be double the amount to get the perfect texture of cooked rice.
