Hi Folks,
When we planned to celebrate our second son’s first birthday along with Christmas party, I wanted to make some handmade artifact specially for him.
Planning to make a handmade pop-up card for him, I started looking for ideas that went on and on. Nothing materialized and the deadline was fast approaching (happens with me all the time!). All of a sudden, a strong desire to paint an old used bottle popped up within me and I painted the bottle. To add an even rich look, I then cut almost 6 CD/DVDs into mosaic patterns and pasted on the bottle. The finished bottle was quite admirable, colourful and elegant.
Materials Used:
Old bottle
Fevicryl Pearl and metallic acryllic colours
old non-working CDs or DVDs
scissors
Fevicol (General Purpose) Glue
Tooth picks (To apply glue on CD surface)
cotton swabs(To wipe off excess glue)
Procedure:
- Take an empty bottle
- Clean it thoroughly without any sticky surfaces and dry it completely. To take off stickers from the bottle I immersed it in hot water for quite a while and then scrubbed it off.
- Please ensure that there is no wet surface.
- Now paint the design required on the bottle. Here I have painted different colours in spiral shape throughout the body of the bottle. I used flat brushes for this.
- I then painted the neck of the bottle with metallic gold acryllic colour.
- Let the colour dry completely.
- At this stage the bottle looked like this..
- Take the old CDs. Cut the using scissors. If it is a plastic scissor, it would be even more easier. While cutting, place the CD in a ziplock bag or polythene cover and start cutting with your hands placed inside the cover. By following this method, you can avoid small plastic and hologram pieces scatterinbg everywhere. Though it appears simple, cutting the CDs gets better with practise. the shapes can be of any desirable shape.
- Now comes the pasting part. while pasting apply glue on the outer surface of the CD and not on the hologram surface. Since we are pasting on a cylindrical surface choose appropriate mosaic pieces that would remain intact on the bottle’s surface.
- That’s all! The embellished painted bottle is ready to use.
- Adorne it with fresh flowers and watch it with delight!
